Biography

Jim Wight is a Chancellor’s Professor in the Department of Electronics at Carleton University. His research interests include antenna structures, millimeter-wave circuits, phase-locked circuits, and transceiver architectures for wireless and satellite communications. His expertise extends to radar, radio frequency technologies, and the design of Fresnel zone plate antennas as well as artificial microwave volume hologram antennas. He has contributed to the development of low-profile apertures and coplanar waveguide transmission lines, focusing on silicon-based integrated circuits at millimeter-wave frequencies. Wight's work includes the design of monolithic micro-machined resonators and oscillators at millimeter-wave frequencies, along with GaN power-amplifier linearization circuits and hybrid RF/digital feed-forward filters for frequency-agile base-station transceivers. He has also researched spoofing and anti-spoofing synchronization circuits for GPS receivers, emphasizing applications in wireless satellite communications, radar surveillance, and tracking imaging.
