Jim Wilhelm received his Ph.D. in Cell Biology from the University of California, San Francisco. He took on an independent postdoctoral position at the Department of Embryology, Carnegie Institution in Washington, where he received funding from the Life Sciences Research Foundation as a Howard Hughes Medical Institute Fellow. He has been recognized as a Sloan Research Fellow in Neuroscience, received support from the Ellison Medical Foundation as a New Scholar in Aging, and was awarded the Basil O'Connor Scholar grant from March of Dimes. Wilhelm's research focuses on cytoplasmic organization in various developmental, metabolic, and neurological processes. His laboratory employs a multidisciplinary approach, integrating biochemistry, genetics, microscopy, and systems biology to identify and characterize novel mechanisms that drive subcellular organization and to study those utilized in the development and function of the nervous system.
