Biography

Jimena Laporta, originally from Uruguay, earned her B.S. in Biology and M.S. in Animal Sciences from Universidad de la República. She completed her Ph.D. in Dairy Science at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. In 2015, she began her independent career as an Assistant Professor in Mammary Gland Physiology at the University of Florida. In 2020, she joined the Department of Animal and Dairy Sciences at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she serves as an Associate Professor in Lactation Physiology. Her research focuses on heat stress physiology, mammary gland biology, and perinatal programming. She studies how management practices during the final trimester of gestation and early postnatal life influence calf growth and physiology. Additionally, her lab investigates how heat stress reprograms epigenomic developmental pathways and the effects on mammary growth and metabolic regulation. Laporta's work aims at enhancing dairy farm management practices and improving animal welfare through innovative research that addresses challenges related to heat stress and lactation.
