Biography

Jimmie LeBlanc graduated from the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal in composition and musical analysis (2005-2006) and holds a doctorate in composition from the Schulich School of Music at McGill University (2014). He participated in the Forum of the Nouvel Ensemble Moderne in Lyon in 2008, where he also did a residency at GRAME, a national center for musical creation. His music has been featured on local and international stages, including performances by Ensemble Contrechamps, Esprit Orchestra, Quatuor Bozzini, Ensemble Paramirabo, Continuum Ensemble, Camerata Aberta, Quasar saxophone quartet, and various soloists. LeBlanc received a 3rd prize at the Lutosławski Award (2008) for his string quartet 'Breaking Circle' and the Jules Léger Prize for new chamber music (Canada Council for the Arts, 2009) for 'L’espace intérieur du monde' for chamber orchestra. He is the author of 'Luigi Nono et les chemins de l’écoute' (2010) and 'Xenakis Aesthetics: Paradoxes Formalist Intuition' (2012), along with contributions to 'La création musicale au Québec' (2014). He is currently the editor of the OICRM musical review and a regular member of the Observatoire interdisciplinaire de création et de recherche en musique (OICRM) and the Analysis, Creation, Teaching of Orchestration (ACTOR) project.
