Dr. Jin Wen Yu

Biography

Jin-Wen Yu is a renowned choreographer and professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison's Dance Department, holding the title of Vilas Distinguished Achievement Professor. With a distinguished career spanning several decades, Dr. Yu has created, performed, directed, and produced over 100 works across the Americas and Asia. His extensive experience includes creating 45 commissioned works for various professional dance companies and institutes. As a former soloist with the Cloud Gate Dance Theatre, he has contributed significantly to prestigious dance events worldwide. A six-time winner at the American College Dance Association Conference, Dr. Yu served as the past president of the World Dance Alliance-Americas, facilitating international dance festivals in major cities like Madison and New York City. In 1999, he founded the Madison-based Jin-Wen Yu Dance, presenting annual concerts and performances nationally and internationally. His works have been critically acclaimed in major newspapers for their artistic merit and impact, reflecting his mastery in the dance field. He has received numerous awards and grants, showcasing his significant contributions to the arts. Dr. Yu earned his EdD in Dance from Temple University and an MFA from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, complementing his rich academic and creative endeavors.
