Biography

Dr. Jin Zhang is a Professor in the Department of Chemical and Biochemical Engineering at Western University. He holds a Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from the National University of Singapore, obtained in 2003. Dr. Zhang has been awarded prestigious fellowships including the NSERC Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship and has completed postdoctoral research at the University of Ottawa. His expertise encompasses the design, processing, and characterization of nanocomposites, focusing on developing nanostructured devices with applications across diverse fields including environmental pollution control, food quality assurance, and disease diagnosis methodologies. The research conducted in his laboratory, Lab for Multifunctional Nanocomposites (LMN), is particularly oriented towards enhancing the chemical, magnetic, and optical properties of advanced nanomaterials. His group is actively exploring five key research directions: multifunctional nanocomposites processing, theranostics, protein chemical sensors, spintronics, and non-invasive detection techniques. Dr. Zhang has received numerous honors including the Early Researcher Award from the Ontario government and recognition as one of the Women Innovators Making a Difference in Global Health. He is also involved in editorial roles for various academic journals related to nanoscience and nanotechnology.
