Biography

Associate Professor Jin Zhang is a distinguished academic in the fields of materials engineering and mechanical manufacturing engineering. She earned her PhD in Materials Engineering from Deakin University, Australia in 2007. With over 140 published journal articles and more than 10,300 citations, she has a significant impact on her research areas, which include triboelectric energy harvesting, self-powered sensors, and the development of lightweight composite structures. Zhang leads a research group focused on polymer matrix composites, including biodegradable polymers and smart textiles, contributing to advancements in materials science and engineering. Her innovative work has garnered numerous awards and recognition, including the Stanford/Elsevier’s Top 2% Scientists list from 2019 to 2024. She has also successfully supervised 14 PhD students, many of whom have gone on to achieve prestigious awards and careers in academia and industry. Associate Professor Zhang is involved in numerous industry partnerships, enhancing the application of her research in practical contexts, and engages in community outreach to promote understanding of sustainable materials. Additionally, she plays a vital role in mentoring future engineers through her involvement in the Redback Racing team at UNSW.
