Dr. Jing Zhang

Biography

Jing Zhang is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Purdue University. His academic background includes a Ph.D. in Materials Science Engineering from Drexel University, earned in July 2004, and dual B.A. degrees in Manufacturing Engineering from Beihang University in March 1999 and Metal Forming from the University of Science and Technology Beijing in July 1996. Dr. Zhang's primary research interests include additive manufacturing and 3D printing technologies, as well as renewable energy applications such as thermal barrier coatings, lithium-ion batteries, hydrogen transport membranes, and solid oxide fuel cells. He is also focused on multi-scale modeling techniques, including finite element methods, discrete element methods, molecular dynamics, and ab initio methods, particularly regarding coupled phenomena like thermal and electrical properties and mass transport. His research extends to applications in processing techniques such as powder metallurgy, compaction sintering, and metal forming, as well as advancements in ceramic materials for biomedical and power generation applications.
