Biography

Jinghua Tang is a Lecturer in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Southampton. He graduated with First-Class Honors in BEng and MSc in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Bristol from 2009 to 2013. He obtained his PhD at the University of Southampton in 2018, focusing on the biomechanics of socket interfaces for lower limb amputees. His PhD research involved cutting-edge interdisciplinary work on interface sensors, functional materials, and musculoskeletal biomechanics, alongside assistive technologies funded by EPSRC, MRC, Innovate UK, and NIHR. He has delivered numerous presentations and received awards for his work, including the Limbless Association presentation prize in 2014 and the IMechE Healthcare Technology Early Career Award in 2019. He actively incorporates research and industry experience into his teaching, particularly in modules related to systems design computing and advanced mechanical engineering.
