Dr. Jingwen Hu

Biography

Jingwen Hu is a Research Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Michigan. He has a strong academic background with a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from Wayne State University, obtained in 2007, and both a Master's and Bachelor's degree in Automotive Engineering from Tsinghua University in 2003 and 2000, respectively. His research primarily focuses on impact and injury biomechanics, specifically on parametric human modeling and statistical injury data analysis. Professor Hu actively investigates occupant protection strategies, including safety equity for diverse populations, design optimization for restraint systems, and improving safety features for vulnerable populations. His work also addresses the safety implications of automated vehicles and advances in child seat design. Professor Hu has contributed to understanding rollover crashes and child abuse biomechanics, leveraging various testing methodologies including cadaver, volunteer, and dummy testing. Through his research, he aims to enhance safety protocols and technologies in automotive engineering.
