Biography

Jesse Zhu is a Distinguished University Professor and a Canada Research Chair in the Department of Chemical and Biochemical Engineering at Western University. He completed his B. Eng. degree at Tsinghua University, China in 1982 and obtained his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the University of British Columbia. With an extensive career in academia, he has published over 400 journal papers and developed numerous technologies ready for commercialization. His research interests focus on fluid-particle systems and powder technology, with specific activities including circulating fluidized bed reactors and wastewater treatment processes. Professor Zhu is a registered Professional Engineer in Ontario and has actively contributed to the chemical engineering profession, serving in leadership roles for both national and international conferences, as well as on editorial boards for prominent journals. He has mentored 170 graduate students and is particularly proud of the significant achievements of his former students, who have gone on to work in leading chemical companies and research institutes. Throughout his career, he has received several prestigious awards, recognizing his contributions and innovations in the field of chemical engineering.
