Biography

Dr. Zhang is a clinician-investigator specializing in pulmonary critical care medicine. He focuses on integrating traditional epidemiologic methods with bioinformatics and multi-omics approaches to improve risk prediction and elucidate the pathobiology of COPD and chronic lung diseases. Dr. Zhang conducts epidemiologic research as part of the Framingham Heart Study and the COPDGene Study, collaborating with cohorts within the NHLBI Trans-Omics Precision Medicine (TOPMed) Program. His current research interests include identifying obesity- and body composition-related determinants of COPD risk heterogeneity and cardiovascular outcomes, as well as defining lung disease risk to improve disease risk stratification in individuals with alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency and genetic carriers.
