Biography

Jinhua Zhao is a Professor focused on City Transportation Planning at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He integrates behavioral and computational thinking to decarbonize the world's mobility system. Zhao founded the MIT Mobility Initiative, which coalesces the Institute’s efforts in transportation research, education, entrepreneurship, and engagement. He hosts the MIT Mobility Forum, which highlights transportation innovation globally. Zhao directs the JTL Urban Mobility Lab and the Transit Lab, leading long-term collaborations with transportation authorities and operators worldwide, enabling cross-cultural learning in cities across North America, Asia, and Europe. Additionally, he leads a program called 'Mens, Manus Machina (M3S): AI Impacts Future Work and Future Learning' in collaboration with the Singapore MIT Alliance for Research and Technology (SMART). His research interests include the intersection of behavioral science and transportation technology, focusing on shaping travel behavior, designing mobility systems, and reforming urban policies through computational methods.
