Biography

Jinhye Bae is an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Chemical and Nano Engineering at the University of California, San Diego. Her research primarily focuses on responsive materials, hydrogels, self-assembly, and nano/microfabrication. The Bae lab aims to understand and exploit the physics, mechanics, and dynamics of soft matter to develop new pathways for programmable assembly and deformation at nano and macro scales. Her group is particularly interested in integrating material characteristics with new structural design and fabrication approaches for applications in biomedical devices, soft robotics, actuators, and sensors. Jinhye completed her postdoctoral fellowship at the Harvard University School of Engineering and Applied Sciences from 2015 to 2018. She received her Ph.D. in Polymer Science and Engineering from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst in 2015, following a B.S. in Chemical Engineering with a focus on Advanced Materials Engineering from Kyung Hee University and an M.S. in Chemical Biological Engineering from Seoul National University.
