Biography

Jinjun Shan is an internationally recognized expert in dynamics and control. He joined York University as an Assistant Professor in Space Engineering in 2006 and was promoted to Full Professor in 2016. Prior to his appointment at York, he was a Post-Doctoral Fellow at the University of Toronto Institute for Aerospace Studies from 2003 to 2006 and a Research Assistant in the Department of Manufacturing Engineering and Engineering Management at City University of Hong Kong from 2002 to 2003. He holds B.Eng., M.Eng., and Ph.D. degrees from Harbin Institute of Technology, China, achieved in 1997, 1999, and 2002 respectively. Professor Shan has made outstanding contributions to national and international space missions, including NEOSSat, and has attracted $5.5 million in research funding from governmental agencies and industry partners. His research progress is demonstrated through 240 peer-reviewed journal and conference publications and two issued patents. He has received numerous prestigious recognitions, including Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering, Fellow of the Engineering Institute of Canada, and Fellow of the American Astronautical Society. He has served as an Associate Editor for leading journals in his field and has chaired numerous conferences. Additionally, he is the founding director of the Spacecraft Dynamics Control Laboratory at York University and served as Department Chair from 2018 to 2023.
