Professor Jitendrapal (Jit) Sharma is the inaugural Department Chair of Civil Engineering at Lassonde School of Engineering. He has extensive engineering experience gained from various academic appointments in India, Singapore, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom. Before joining Lassonde, he was a Professor of Geotechnical Engineering at the University of Saskatchewan from 2001, where he taught soil mechanics, foundation engineering, and geotechnical modelling at both undergraduate and graduate levels. His work includes leading geotechnical engineering interdisciplinary research projects and collaborating closely with local industry specialists and geotechnical engineering consultants. He is a licensed professional engineer in Saskatchewan and Ontario and has permission to consult in geotechnical engineering in Saskatchewan. Professor Sharma served as Associate Editor of the Canadian Geotechnical Journal, recognized as one of the top journals in the field. He is passionate about engineering education and has received awards for teaching excellence. His research interests include theoretical and computational geomechanics, geotechnical centrifuge modelling, critical state soil mechanics, constitutive numerical modelling in geotechnics, soil-structure interaction, geosynthetics, ground improvement techniques, and unsaturated soil mechanics.
