Biography

Dr. Jiuyong Xie’s research program is centered on RNA splicing biology and diseases, employing molecular, cellular, genomic, and transcriptomic approaches. His current research focuses on the regulation and function of a novel group of introns identified by his lab members, which generate mRNA protein diversity that leads to human genetic diseases. These introns include regulatory RNA elements, particularly G slots that are adjacent to polypyrimidine tracts and 3' AG (REPAG), evolved throughout mammalian genomes and are likely crucial for transcriptome integrity and diversity. Dr. Xie has made significant contributions to understanding the molecular basis of alternative pre-mRNA splicing and how it is affected by stress hormones, proposing mechanisms for activity-dependent splicing control crucial for neuronal adaptation and hormone production. He aims to unveil new RNA elements that play a role in human genetic diseases, and he shares his passion for scientific discovery with his students and postdoctoral fellows. When not at work, he enjoys exploring the natural beauty of the Canadian Shield lakes near Winnipeg with his lab members.
