Biography

Jo-Anne LeFevre is an academic whose work revolves around cognitive development and individual differences in cognition, particularly in numerical understanding. With a Ph.D. from the University of Alberta, she has explored various dimensions of mathematical cognition, including the mental codes adults utilize to solve arithmetic problems and the influence of working memory on mental arithmetic. Additionally, she studies the development of early numeracy skills in preschool and kindergarten-aged children. Her applied research includes investigating the role of language in mathematical learning among children in elementary school and developing tools for assessing early numeracy skills. Currently, Jo-Anne is looking forward to mentoring new students for the academic year 2026-27.
