Dr. Jo Braithwaite

Biography

Jo Braithwaite is a Professor of Law at the London School of Economics and Political Science. She has been with LSE since September 2008, specializing in international commercial finance law. Her current research interests focus on the use of private law in international markets, particularly concerning derivatives markets and the resilience of financial market infrastructure utilizing standard form contracts. Recent significant achievements include her book 'The Financial Courts,' which was awarded the Main Book Prize by the Inner Temple in 2022. Jo holds a PhD from the University of London, an LLM from the University of Pennsylvania as a Thouron scholar, and a BA(Hons) from the University of Oxford. She contributes to the field by analyzing three decades of legal disputes in global derivatives markets, integrating theoretical insights with legal practice. In addition to her research and publication efforts, Jo also teaches financial, banking, and commercial law, supervising PhD students and receiving multiple teaching awards from LSE.
