Biography

Jo Gill is the Vice-Principal and Head of the College of Arts & Humanities at the University of Glasgow, where she has been since August 2022. She previously held the position of Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Executive Dean of the College of Humanities at the University of Exeter. Additionally, Jo has experience as Associate Dean for Education and Associate Dean for International Development during her tenure. She has a strong academic background, having completed her PhD at the University of Gloucestershire in 2001 after studying at Leicester for her BA and York for her MA. Jo has also worked in the newspaper and publishing sectors and has served as a Governor and Chair of Governors at Richard Huish Sixth Form College in Somerset. She is actively involved in the British Association for American Studies and has contributed to the BAAS/US Embassy Grants Programme as an inaugural co-chair. Her research and teaching focus on modern American poetry and literature, exploring themes of culture in cities and suburbs. Jo is the author of several works including 'Anne Sexton’s Confessional Poetics' and 'Cambridge Introduction to Sylvia Plath,' with her latest book set to be published by Oxford University Press.
