Dr. Jo Hsu

Biography

Jo Hsu is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Rhetoric and Writing at the University of Texas at Austin. They hold a PhD in Rhetoric and Composition and an MFA in Creative Writing. Jo's research primarily explores how narratives shape lived realities, particularly in institutional contexts where marginalized voices are constrained. Their work interrogates the impact of racialized and gendered bodily norms on life opportunities, challenging normative social scripts. Jo’s scholarly contributions appear in prominent journals such as Rhetoric Society Quarterly and Women’s Studies in Communication, and they are also recognized in the creative writing domain, having been nominated for a Pushcart Prize. Their forthcoming book, 'Constellating Home: Trans Queer Asian American Rhetorics', is expected to be released in Fall 2022 by Ohio State University Press. Jo's research interests include Rhetoric and Structures of Power, Narrative Rhetorics, Asian American Rhetorics, Trans Queer Studies, Disability Studies, and Rhetorics of Health and Medicine.
