Biography

Jo Nield is a Professor of Aeolian Geomorphology at the University of Southampton, specializing in the development of innovative field and computer modeling techniques to quantify aeolian surface morphodynamics. Beginning her academic career as a lecturer in 2007, she has since developed significant expertise in understanding dynamic processes in aeolian environments. Her research includes pioneering work with terrestrial laser scanning to explore surface changes in dusty landscapes. Jo's fieldwork has taken her to desert regions across southern Africa, North America, and South America, and she has received funding from prestigious organizations such as the NERC, NSF, and NASA. Notably, she was awarded the Royal Geographical Society's Gill Memorial Award in 2016 for her outstanding early career research on aeolian processes and landform development. Jo actively engages in teaching and supervising students in Geography at the university level, leading field courses in various desert environments.
