Biography

Jo Osborn is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Anthropology at Texas A&M University. Osborn’s research primarily focuses on environmental archaeology, historical ecology, and economic specialization within maritime communities. She has a keen interest in understanding the subsistence practices of fisher-foragers and the impacts of climatic events, such as El Niño, on prehispanic communities. Her work employs Bayesian modeling to analyze archaeological data, particularly within the context of Andean ethnohistory. Osborn’s educational background includes a PhD in Anthropology from the University of Michigan, earned in 2022, and an AB in Anthropology from Harvard University, completed in 2012. She is currently involved in several research projects aimed at exploring maritime subsistence practices and their resilience to environmental changes, as well as conducting zooarchaeological analysis in the PaleoAndes project. Osborn is dedicated to advancing the understanding of ancient societies through rigorous archaeological methods and collaborative research efforts, mentoring graduate students along the way.
