Biography

Jo is a supervising solicitor and lecturer at King’s Legal Clinic, King’s College London. She has been a practicing solicitor since 2003, specializing in housing and public law. Jo has trained in social welfare law and legal aid practice, leading a strategic litigation team for the housing and homelessness charity Shelter, where she spearheaded test cases and third-party interventions on behalf of the organization. Her significant cases include numerous Supreme Court challenges related to homelessness and social security issues. Jo has also engaged in extensive training, policy development, campaigning, and research aimed at improving housing policy and practices for individuals facing homelessness. Additionally, Jo is an active member of the Housing Law Practitioners Association and has considerable advocacy experience in housing law, both in court and the national media. In recognition of her contributions, she became a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy in 2023. Alongside her work at King’s, Jo serves as a consultant solicitor for the Public Interest Law Centre, where she is currently instructed by Core Participants in the Covid-19 Public Inquiry. She teaches the LLB Student Law Clinic module, focusing on enhancing access to justice in housing and homelessness law.
