Joachim (Joe) Ix, MD, MAS is a Professor and Division Chief in the Department of Medicine, Division of Nephrology-Hypertension at the University of California, San Diego. He graduated with an MD degree from the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine and completed his internal medicine residency as well as nephrology fellowship at the University of California, San Francisco. Dr. Ix is a nephrologist and epidemiologist with expertise in clinical trials. His research primarily focuses on epidemiology and health behavior, particularly in the areas of novel therapies for chronic kidney disease mineral bone disorders (CKD-MBD) and non-invasive assessments of kidney tubule health.
