Dr. Joan Bleicher

Biography

Joan Kristin Bleicher is a Professor at the University of Hamburg in the Department of Media and Communication. She has an extensive academic background with studies in German Studies, American Studies, and General Literary Studies across different universities, including Giessen and Siegen. Her doctoral research was completed at the University of Siegen and she has contributed to several notable research programs, specifically focusing on the aesthetics, pragmatics, and history of screen media. Her teaching and research encompass areas like media culture, media aesthetics, media history, and narrative theory, particularly in relation to television. She has held teaching positions at multiple universities, including the University of Saarland, Marburg, and Lüneburg, before her current position at Hamburg. Bleicher is also associated with the Hans Bredow Institute, working on the implications of television financing on film development since the 1950s, alongside various published works in media studies.
