Biography

Dr. Joan Gluch currently serves as a Clinical Professor and previously held the position of Division Chief at the Community Oral Health department of Penn Dental Medicine. With a distinguished career, she has led a team of twenty-one faculty and staff to develop and implement community-based clinical outreach programs and curriculum focused on behavioral health sciences, community health, promotion, disease prevention, and public health. Dr. Gluch directed community health service-learning courses and oversaw clinical outreach initiatives like Penn Smiles, a mobile dental program for children, and a dental care program for low-income elderly individuals. She coordinated the Community Health Honors Program, advised on the DMD/MPH dual degree program, and contributed to the inter-professional education initiative known as Bridging Gaps. Her research is centered around expanding access to oral health promotion and care in community settings, and she has held research support from the Health Resources Services Administration (HRSA) on multiple projects. She has been the principal investigator for various initiatives aimed at improving pediatric dentistry training and faculty loan repayment programs.
