Biography

Joan Raeburn Holland is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Music Department at the University of Michigan. She teaches harp and has a strong commitment to teaching while maintaining an active career as a solo and chamber musician. Currently, she serves as the principal harpist for the Midland Symphony Orchestra and is the co-principal harpist for the Traverse Symphony Orchestra. Besides her orchestral work, Joan has performed with numerous Michigan orchestras as a substitute harpist. Her notable collaborations include performances with the Phoenix Symphony Orchestra and the Cleveland Ballet Orchestra. As an avid chamber musician, she participates in various music festivals and has performed in concerts hosted by the University of Michigan, Interlochen Center for the Arts, and other regional festivals. She has also participated in recital programs for the American Harp Society and has a strong academic background, having studied under Eileen Malone at the Eastman School of Music and with Alice Chalifoux. Joan cooperates closely with her husband, David Holland, a professional violist and conductor, while also raising their children, Jennifer and John.
