Biography

Joan Ongchoco is an Assistant Professor at the University of British Columbia in the Department of Psychology. She received her PhD from Yale University in 2022, where she worked closely with Brian Scholl on her dissertation focusing on perception and cognitive processes. Prior to her doctorate, Joan earned an Honors Bachelor of Arts degree from Yale-NUS College in 2017, where she studied Philosophy, Politics, and Economics as part of the inaugural class. After completing her PhD, she was a post-doctoral fellow at Humboldt University of Berlin, collaborating with Martin Rolfs. At UBC, she directs the Perception & Cognition Lab, which investigates the interplay between perception and broader mental life. Joan is committed to leveraging her research in cognitive science to enhance understanding of how people see and interact with the world around them.
