Dr. Joan Weibel Orlando

Biography

Joan Weibel-Orlando is an Associate Professor Emerita in Anthropology with a prominent focus on urban anthropology and applied anthropology. With a Ph.D. in Anthropology from the University of California, Los Angeles, earned in January 1977, she has dedicated her academic career to researching various socially and culturally significant topics. Her work encompasses alcohol studies, aging, ethnographic field methods, and medical anthropology. Weibel-Orlando has a particular interest in the experiences and cultures of North American Indians, as well as global economies and tourism. Additionally, her research includes extensive ethnographic fieldwork, particularly related to the impacts of alcohol on communities. Throughout her career, she has contributed significantly to the understanding of these complex issues through her research and teachings.
