Biography

Joanna Cockerline is a Lecturer in the Faculty of Creative and Critical Studies and the Faculty of Management at the University of British Columbia Okanagan. She has been teaching since 2011 and previously designed and directed an interdisciplinary writing skills program at the University of Guelph for over a decade. Joanna's contributions include published articles on embedded writing pedagogy, fiction, and poetry in national and international publications. She is the co-author of the international short story anthology 'Seeing Sisters' (2024) and has a forthcoming novel scheduled for autumn 2025. Joanna runs her own writing, editing, and consulting business, working with various organizations across Canada and internationally in fields such as engineering, travel, recreation, and environmental initiatives. She has also been involved in community outreach as a literacy and writing mentor. Joanna is a CBC Literary Awards prizewinner with notable nominations including the Pushcart Prize. Her academic interests are combined with her pursuit of creative writing, focusing on themes such as intersectional feminism and survivor narratives, aiming to inspire social change through writing.
