Dr. Joanna Collingwood

Biography

Joanna Collingwood trained in Physics at the University of York, where she received her MPhys degree, and continued her academic journey at the University of Warwick, earning a PhD. Her research specializes in the analysis of trace metals and high-resolution imaging in the context of neurodegenerative disorders, with a focus on understanding the distribution of transition metal ions in the human brain. Joanna previously held research fellowships at Keele University and the University of Florida, where she contributed to significant advancements in understanding Alzheimer’s disease. At the University of Warwick's School of Engineering, she serves as a Professor and the Associate Head of the Department, overseeing a laboratory dedicated to trace metals in medicine. Her extensive experience includes establishing connections with prominent international research facilities, leading committees for synchrotron user groups, and actively participating in public engagement initiatives. Joanna’s contributions to science include participating in various advisory panels, supporting education and outreach in STEM, and fostering the next generation of researchers through mentorship and supervision of PhD students. She has authored numerous publications in esteemed journals and is involved in several research projects associated with Alzheimer's Research UK and other significant bodies in the field.
