Dr. Joanna Williams

Biography

Joanna Williams is a Professor of Sustainable Development at University College London and a Visiting Professor at the Technical University of Delft in the Netherlands. She serves as the Director of the Circular Cities Hub and has extensive expertise in regenerative urban systems. Her work addresses climate change and planetary overshoot, focusing on circular cities and development, zero carbon initiatives, energy-efficient buildings, renewable energy systems, community energy schemes, and sustainable urban transitions. Joanna has worked as a policy advisor for organizations such as the OECD and the European Commission, providing insights on circular economy strategies and assisting with policy briefings. She has engaged with various stakeholders, including government entities, non-profit organizations, and international bodies such as the United Nations Environment Programme. Joanna's research also emphasizes co-designing successful cohousing communities and the importance of mutualistic lifestyles in sustainable consumption and production.
