Biography

Joanne Chung's research interests lie at the intersection of culture, self, and emotion. Her work is defined by related lines of research focusing on how people's self-views change during important developmental transitions. She examines emotional experiences, enduring dispositions, and momentary states in everyday life. In her research, she seeks to understand how an individual's cultural milieu, self-concept, and emotional life interact to shape individual differences. Currently, she is co-director of the Karakter project, a longitudinal research study that examines everyday emotional experiences related to positive personal growth among Syrian-origin young adults who have resettled in the Netherlands.
