Biography

Joanne De Silva is a Lecturer in Law at Columbia Law School, bringing over thirty years of experience as a finance lawyer at leading international law firms, primarily as an equity partner. Her practice encompasses complex finance transactions and debt restructurings across the United States, Europe, and Asia, with particular expertise in acquisition finance. During the Global Financial Crisis, she advised lender groups on workouts and restructurings, contributing to the emergence of private credit as a distinct asset class. As a featured speaker at Continuing Legal Education programs for the American Bar Association and Practicing Law Institute, she covers topics including acquisition finance, unitranche financing, and intercreditor arrangements. In addition to her professional practice, Joanne is deeply committed to mentoring and training, having been an integral part of her firm’s Women’s Leadership Committee and Hiring Committee, which aimed at expanding opportunities for women lawyers. She frequently provides training programs for lawyers across AmLaw 100 firms and is a certified lawyer coach.
