Professor Dr. Joanne Kotsopoulos

Biography

Joanne Kotsopoulos is a Professor at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health at the University of Toronto and an affiliated scientist at the Women’s College Research Institute. Her research primarily focuses on cancer epidemiology, particularly in breast and ovarian cancer, with special emphasis on BRCA1/2 mutation carriers. Kotsopoulos has an extensive academic background with a Ph.D. from the Department of Nutritional Sciences at the University of Toronto. She has conducted post-doctoral research at the Channing Laboratory at Brigham Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School. Her notable contributions include identifying modifiable risk factors in hereditary cancers and prognostic factors in ovarian cancer patients. She has been recognized with several awards, including the Victoria University Distinguished Alumni Award and a Canadian Cancer Society Career Development Award in Prevention. Kotsopoulos has published numerous influential papers and actively teaches both graduate and undergraduate students, coordinating courses related to nutrition and cancer.
