Biography

Joanne Beckwith Maddock is an Assistant Teaching Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from the University of Toledo in 2013, followed by a Master of Science in Engineering from the University of Michigan in 2017, and a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Michigan in 2021. Her primary research focus is on undergraduate engineering education, particularly sustainable workforce development. She is currently involved in several projects aimed at aligning chemical engineering curricula with industrial workforce needs and enhancing the effectiveness of learning modules to increase safety and design elements in laboratory courses. Additionally, Beckwith is active in engineering education outreach, organizing events for K-12 students and educators on campus. She leads the REACT (Research Experiences Activities Classroom Teachers) program, which focuses on engineering outreach in rural communities.
