Biography

Jo Neale is a Professor of Addictions Qualitative Research at King's College London, based at the National Addiction Centre working within the Biomedical Research Centre for Mental Health at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience. She also serves as a Conjunct Professor at the Centre for Social Research in Health at the University of New South Wales in Australia. With a background in social science, Jo trained and qualified as a social worker in 1989, later completing an MSc in Women’s Studies and a DPhil in Social Policy and Social Work from the University of York. Jo has held academic positions at the University of Glasgow, University of York, and Oxford Brookes University, where she was a Professor of Public Health before joining King's College London in 2013. Her research interests focus on qualitative mixed methods research, particularly in areas such as Patient Public Involvement and Engagement, opioid pharmacotherapies, and drug treatment evaluations. She is also a Senior Qualitative Editor for the journal Addiction and is involved in various committees related to addiction research and public engagement.
