Biography

Bringing more than 35 years of experience as a nurse practitioner, Joanne M. Pohl’s scholarship focuses on health outcomes and cost of care in nurse managed health centers, health informatics, and safety net practices. Her leadership includes directing the Adult Nurse Practitioner Program at the University of Michigan for eight years, serving as Associate Dean for Community Partnerships, and holding various national positions including past president of the National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties (NONPF). Pohl has contributed to significant policy initiatives affecting primary care nurse practitioners and has been involved in quality and safety education initiatives. She’s served on the Institute of Medicine Committee on Geographic Adjustment Factors in Medicare and is a member of the Nursing Alliance for Quality Care Advisory Board. Pohl was the President-elect of the Haiti Nursing Foundation and has numerous accolades, including being a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing. Her teaching contributions include mentoring doctoral students and consulting nationally and internationally on advanced practice nursing.
