Biography

Dr. Joanne Rovet is a senior scientist emeritus at the Neurosciences & Mental Health Hospital for Sick Children and a professor at the Department of Psychology at the University of Toronto. She has a PhD from the University of Toronto and completed a postdoctoral fellowship in pediatric neuropsychology at SickKids. Rovet is a registered psychologist with the College of Psychologists of Ontario and has been involved in various research programs throughout her career. Her research focuses on developmental perception, cognition, and cognitive neuroscience, particularly regarding the role of thyroid hormone in fetal and neonatal brain development. She studies the neuroanatomic characteristics of children exposed to thyroid hormone insufficiencies and fetal alcohol spectrum disorders, utilizing structural and functional neuroimaging techniques. Rovet has also served on multiple advisory committees and is a founding member of the Turner Syndrome Society of Canada.
