Biography

JoAnne Stubbe is a Professor Emerita at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the Department of Biology. She has extensively studied ribonucleotide reductases (RNRs), which are essential enzymes providing building blocks for DNA replication and repair, and are successful targets for multiple clinical drugs. Her research has contributed to a deeper understanding of the radical propagation pathway utilized by Class I RNRs, the interactions between protein subunits of Class I RNRs, and the regulation mechanisms of RNRs in various organisms including E. coli and S. cerevisiae. Stubbe's work has implications for the biosynthesis, activation, and regulation of critical metallo-cofactors involved in RNR functioning. She is not currently accepting students into her lab.
