Biography

João Ponciano received his M.Eng. (Hons) in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Lancaster in the UK in 1997. He completed an MA in Academic Practice with distinction at Manchester Metropolitan University in 2011 and obtained an LL.B. (Hons) in Law from the Open University in 2017. His Ph.D. focused on load balancing for quality service in multimedia networks, awarded by the University of Chichester in 2018. João is a member of the Institution of Engineering Technology (MIET) since 1996 and became a Chartered Engineer (C.Eng.) in 2006. He has been a member of the British Computer Society (MBCS) since 2002 and is recognized as a Chartered Information Technology Professional (CITP) since 2004. He was a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA) starting in 2004. His professional experience includes a position as a researcher team leader at the International Organisation for Nuclear Research (CERN) in Geneva, Switzerland, in 1997. He transitioned to academia as a Lecturer and later as a Senior Lecturer in Computer Networks at Leeds Beckett University, followed by a role as Principal Lecturer at Manchester Metropolitan University until 2014. He has held significant leadership roles, including Executive Dean at PSB Academy in Singapore and Vice-Dean for a transnational partnership with the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China in Chengdu. João has published numerous conference and journal papers on topics such as employability in engineering, curriculum modeling, and simulation. His research interests cover networking systems technologies, distributed systems, cybersecurity, relational database systems, data mining, simulation modeling, and software engineering.
