Generate a tailored SOP for Dr. Joao Quinta Da Fonseca. Improve your application with a focused, well-structured draft.
Professor João Quinta da Fonseca completed his PhD in mechanical behaviour of high volume fraction metal matrix composites (MMCs) at the University of Leeds before moving to the University of Manchester, where he is currently a Professor of Mechanical Metallurgy. He is a member of the Metallurgy and Corrosion research group and is involved with the Centre for Light Alloy Research Innovation (CLARI). His research focuses on the mechanics of metal deformation at the microstructural scale and explores the evolution of microstructure and material performance in service. His work is supported by industrial collaborations in the aerospace, energy, and automotive sectors, with partners including Novelis, Constelium, Rolls-Royce, Wood, and Airbus. Professor Fonseca leads research in Modelling at the Henry Royce Institute and is an active member of the International Scientific Committee for ICOTOM, the international conference on texture in materials. His key areas of expertise include the application of high-resolution digital image correlation (HRDIC) to measure deformation at sub-micron resolution and the use of synchrotron and neutron diffraction techniques to investigate deformation microstructure evolution of alloys in situ, as well as developing computational models for metal deformation.
