Biography

João Rebelo Moreira is an Assistant Professor at the University of Twente, where he has been part of the faculty since 2014. He obtained his PhD research from 2014 to 2018, focusing on artificial intelligence and system integration for smart emergency services utilizing Internet-of-Things technologies, with a context of disaster risk reduction for smart cities. Since 2020, he has been working with the Semantics and Cybersecurity Services group, where he emphasizes software engineering, particularly in architecture for distributed systems and technical interoperability. His current research interests include digital twins and explainable AI in support of ontologies and model-based system engineering. Moreira actively participates in organizing conferences and workshops, collaborating with both academic institutions and industry. He has experience in teaching courses related to Architecture of Information Systems, Smart Industry Systems, and Model-Driven Engineering at various academic levels. With a background from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, he holds both BSc and MSc degrees in Computer Science and Informatics, respectively. Additionally, he has industry experience as a software developer and enterprise architect, from 2001 to 2014, and enjoys mentoring students through their academic journeys.
