Biography

João Soares holds the Campus Alberta Innovates Program (CAIP) Chair in Interfacial Polymer Engineering and is recognized as a Canada Research Chair in Advanced Polymer Reaction Engineering. His research focuses on developing original methodologies to investigate polymerization processes, incorporating aspects of polymerization kinetics, microstructural characterization, and detailed mathematical modeling. Prof. Soares’s group works towards understanding the polymerization process and polymer architecture continuum. He joined the University of Alberta in July 2013 after spending 18 years as a professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Waterloo. His expertise includes consulting for polyolefin manufacturing companies globally and working as an expert witness in patent litigation cases. Prof. Soares has published over 200 articles in referred journals and authored 13 book chapters, along with co-authoring a book on Polyolefin Reaction Engineering. He serves as Editor-in-Chief for the Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering and is a Fellow of the Chemical Institute of Canada and the Canadian Academy of Engineering.
