Biography

Joao Ricardo Nickenig Vissoci is an Associate Professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine at Duke University, with joint appointments in Neurosurgery, Global Health, and Biostatistics & Bioinformatics. He serves as the Chief of the Division of Translational Health Sciences and the co-Director of the Global Emergency Medicine Innovation Implementation Research Center (GEMINI). His academic journey includes a bachelor's degree in Psychology, a Master's in Physical Education, an MBA in Human Resources, and a Ph.D. in Social Psychology. He completed his postdoctoral fellowship in Data Science at Duke University and has a strong background in social psychology and data science. Vissoci has over 14 years of faculty experience, having taught in Brazil and mentored numerous trainees. His research interests focus on leveraging data analytics and innovative solutions to address healthcare gaps in low-resource settings. He has published over 200 manuscripts and collaborated on multiple NIH grants.
