Biography

Joaquín (Quim) Madrenas is a Professor of Medicine in the Division of Infectious Diseases at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. He previously served as a Professor and Canada Research Chair in Human Immunology at McGill University, as well as the Chief Scientific Officer at the Lundquist Institute for Biomedical Innovation at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center. Dr. Madrenas has received his M.D. degree from the University of Barcelona and completed a specialization in Nephrology Transplantation at the University Autónoma Barcelona, followed by a Ph.D. in Immunology at the University of Alberta. His research focuses on immunology, particularly the identification of signaling patterns within T cell antigen receptors and the mechanisms of CTLA-4 signaling. Dr. Madrenas has published over 120 scientific papers in high-impact journals and has served as an associate editor for multiple academic journals. He has received various awards for his contributions to the field, including the Canada Foundation Innovation Researcher Award and the Premier’s Research Excellence Award. Additionally, he founded the Centre for Clinical Immunology and Immunotherapeutics in Ontario and has led initiatives to promote research career development within Human Immunology.
