Biography

Joar Björk is a Postdoctoral fellow at Linköping University, specializing in priority setting in health care. His current research explores the challenging trade-offs that arise between the time spent on medical interventions and the time spent communicating with patients. In Sweden, there is a priority setting framework that requires medical interventions to be prioritized based on the patient’s legal rights and the information that needs to be conveyed to patients. This presents a dilemma for healthcare personnel, who must choose between providing interventions and effective communication. Dr. Björk aims to analyze this dilemma both normatively and descriptively. He holds a PhD in internal medicine and palliative medicine from Karolinska Institutet, where his thesis addressed the influence of patients’ responsibilities on priority setting decisions in healthcare.
