Biography

Jocelyn Bélanger is an Associate Teaching Professor of Psychology at Carnegie Mellon University Qatar, specializing in Social Psychology. He earned his master's and doctorate degrees in Social Psychology from the University of Maryland, College Park. Bélanger has authored a book titled 'The Pillars of Radicalization: Needs, Narratives, Network' and has published over 100 works focusing on topics such as psychology of terrorism, de-radicalization, self-sacrifice, motivated reasoning, and environmental psychology. He is the director of the CMUQ Violent Extremism and Environmental Sustainability Lab. In March 2015, Bélanger was appointed in Montreal to create North America's first de-radicalization center to address homegrown terrorism, known as the Center for the Prevention of Radicalization Leading to Violence. His research has been featured in various international media outlets and journals including Scientific American and World Politics Review.
