Biography

Jochen Blumberger obtained his Master’s degree in Interdisciplinary Natural Sciences from ETH Zurich in 2001 and completed his PhD at Cambridge University in 2005, where his research focused on density functional based molecular dynamics simulations of redox reactions under the supervision of Professor Michiel Sprik. He then undertook a two-year postdoctoral fellowship with Professor Michael L. Klein at the University of Pennsylvania. In 2006, he returned to Cambridge as a Royal Society University Research Fellow. In 2009, Jochen joined University College London (UCL) as a University Lecturer in the Department of Physics and Astronomy, advancing to Reader in 2013 and then to Professor of Chemical Physics in 2015. He became Head of Condensed Matter Materials Physics in 2022 and Co-Director of the Thomas Young Centre London in 2020. His academic journey reflects a strong focus on the intersections of chemistry and physics, particularly in the domain of materials science.
